A championship send-off

The Eagle Grove state-bound Special Olympics athletes headed out to their games in Ames last week. On Thursday, the Eagle Grove Elementary student body lined the hallways of the school, cheering, waving flags and homemade posters to wish their participating classmates good luck. As they walked around both the upper and lower levels, you could see a sense of pride in the athletes’ faces at what they had accomplished, and an aniticiption of how they would do at the games. Friday, before they left, there was one more surprise for them, a police-led escort through the drive of the elementary and Robert Blue Middle School.
