The best of the best Rotary Senior Living earns Five-Star Rating

For the first time since its inception in 2008, Rotary Senior Living has earned the Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

“This is an extremely big deal...it’s the best of the best,” said Rotary Senior Living Administrator Tara Behrendsen.

Those receiving a Five-Star Rating are considered to have “much above average quality.” To determine the ranking, the CMS looks at a variety of areas to help residents, their families, and their caregivers compare nursing homes. One of those areas is quality measures.

Within that area, for example, there are 16 subdivisions that help the CMS determine how a resident is being cared for. According to Behrendsen, this includes things like wound care, weight loss/gain, activities, daily living, falls, ulcers/sores, medications, restraints, etc. A second area looks at staffing - how many hours of care on average are provided to each resident each day by staff and looks at the resident to staff ratio.

“We strive to give our residents a higher number of percentage time of care either with a CNA or an RN,” said Behrendsen. “The staff is always willing to help out and do what needs to be done in order to get the job done and give the best care.”

Theresa Kleen, RN and Director of Nursing added, “When we started adding to the staff here, we stressed that this is their home and you are a guest in their home.”
