Behind the scenes of Back-To-School

The back-to-school hustle and bustle has begun. With only a week to go until the first bell of the 2017 - 2018 school year rings, kids everywhere are collecting their supplies and preparing for the first day of a new school year.

Likewise, teachers are setting up their classrooms and administrators are making sure all the final details are taken care of. But there’s one very important part of this equation that is often forgotten about.

Is the school building itself actually ready for the kids to come back? Are the desks in place? Have the floors been cleaned? Have the necessary repairs been made? Thanks to the custodial staff, or you might say the unsung heros of the school, the Eagle Grove Area School District buildings are ready to be home to hundreds of kids from 8 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. five days a week.

Some people may not realize that the custodians do not get summers off like students and teachers. Instead, it’s their busiest time - a chance to move all the file cabinets to clean behind, wash every single window (including sky lights), wash the carpets...and take care of all the other jobs that are harder to take care of when class is in session.
